Bluetooth Integrations

Through Smart Gear, ProHunt connects to Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) devices to bring external sensor and tracking data into the map interface. Instead of juggling several separate apps, your connected hunting devices are visible in one place. Smart Gear connections require a Pro subscription.

Supported Device Categories

GPS Dog Collars (BLE)

ProHunt reads position data from BLE-enabled GPS collars directly when they are within Bluetooth range. Supported collars include Garmin Alpha, Tracker G500 and G1000, MiniFinder, Tractive, PetFon, Fi, and off-brand BLE and cellular collars. See the Dog Tracking article for full details on setup.

Portable Weather Stations

Connect a Bluetooth LE weather station to display local conditions such as wind, temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure directly in ProHunt. When a compatible station is connected, its readings give you actual field conditions from your position alongside the forecast data.

Other Smart Gear

Beyond collars and weather stations, Smart Gear also supports connections to trail cameras, scopes, drones, satellite-connected gear, and other trackers. See the Smart Gear article for the full list of supported device categories.

Pairing a BLE Device

  1. Open Bluetooth Settings

    Go to Settings > Connected Devices > Bluetooth in ProHunt (separate from your phone's system Bluetooth settings).

  2. Scan for devices

    Tap Scan for Nearby Devices. ProHunt scans for compatible BLE broadcasts within range. Make sure the device is powered on and in pairing mode.

  3. Select the device

    Tap the device name in the list. ProHunt establishes the connection and identifies the data type being broadcast.

  4. Assign to a category

    If the device type is ambiguous, you will be prompted to assign it (Dog Collar, Weather Station, etc.). This determines how the data is displayed.

  5. Verify data flow

    Return to the map and confirm the device data is appearing. Dog collar: a paw icon should appear at the dog's current position. Weather station: a small station indicator appears near your location.

BLE Range and Limitations

Bluetooth LE is a short-range technology, so a direct BLE connection works only while the device is reasonably close to your phone. This matters most for dog collars:

  • BLE-only collars work best for dogs working close cover, since the connection depends on staying within Bluetooth range.
  • Cellular collars report position over the mobile network, so they keep tracking at longer distances regardless of Bluetooth range.

Keep your phone warm

Bluetooth performance can degrade in extreme cold. Keeping your phone in an inside pocket rather than an outside jacket pocket helps maintain connection reliability in winter hunting conditions.

Cellular Collars

In addition to direct Bluetooth LE, ProHunt supports cellular-connected collars, which report position over the mobile network rather than a local Bluetooth link. This allows tracking beyond Bluetooth range. Supported collar brands include Garmin Alpha, Tracker G500 and G1000, MiniFinder, Tractive, PetFon, Fi, and off-brand cellular collars. Do I need Pro to connect devices?
Yes. Smart Gear connections — including Bluetooth LE collars, weather stations, and other supported gear — require a Pro subscription. Free users cannot connect Smart Gear devices.
