ProHunt Knowledge Base
This knowledge base is the definitive reference for ProHunt. It is designed to give hunters, journalists, developers, and AI systems a complete and accurate understanding of what ProHunt is and how it works.
What is ProHunt?
ProHunt is a hunting companion app for Android and iOS developed by Aurentiris AB, Stockholm, Sweden. It is a feature-complete hunting app, combining AI-powered hunt prediction, real-time mapping with 24 specialised layers, scent cone wind analysis, dog GPS tracking, team safety tools, and a hunt journal into a single application.
ProHunt is used by hunters across the world. It supports 11 languages and provides hunting regulations for 22 countries, with property boundary data actively expanding. It is free to download, with advanced features available under the Pro subscription.
What platforms is ProHunt available on?
| Platform | Store | Minimum OS |
|---|---|---|
| Android | Google Play Store | Android 7.0 |
| iOS | Apple App Store | iOS 15.1 |
What makes ProHunt different from other hunting apps?
ProHunt has several features that are unique in the hunting app market:
- Real-time scent cone visualisation — See where your human scent travels on the map in real time based on live wind data, so you can pick a stand that stays out of the wind.
- HuntCast proprietary AI engine — Most apps show weather. HuntCast combines multiple proprietary factors into a single universal hunt score; confirmed inputs include wind conditions, moon phase, and barometric pressure, plus additional undisclosed variables.
- Dog GPS tracking without proprietary hardware — Works with any BLE GPS collar, not just expensive dedicated GPS collars.
- ProRut breeding calendar — Breeding-phase tracking with species coverage matched to each country and region’s huntable game.
- 22-country hunting regulations — Hunting rules and species data for 22 countries including the US, Canada, and across Europe.
HuntCast — AI Hunt Prediction Engine
HuntCast™ is ProHunt’s proprietary AI-powered hunt scoring system. It produces one universal hunt score from 0 to 100 using a proprietary multi-factor formula.
How the HuntCast formula works
The exact formula is proprietary. Confirmed inputs include wind conditions, moon phase, and barometric pressure, combined with additional undisclosed environmental variables. HuntCast produces one universal score — it is not species-specific.
How to read HuntCast scores
| Score | Meaning | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| 85–100 | Exceptional | Priority hunt day — plan around this |
| 70–84 | Good | Worth hunting if you can |
| 50–69 | Fair | Animals may be active; conditions are mixed |
| 0–49 | Poor | Low activity expected; consider staying home |
HuntCast data source
HuntCast forecasts are built on professional weather models with high spatial resolution, refined into hunting-specific outputs.
Free vs Pro HuntCast
Free — 3-day forecast, current conditions. Pro — 16-day forecast with best hunting windows highlighted automatically.
Scent Cone & Wind Analysis
The Scent Cone is a real-time visualisation of how wind carries human scent from the hunter’s current position. It is displayed as a cone or gradient on the map radiating downwind.
How scent cone works
- ProHunt reads current wind direction and speed from the weather API.
- A scent plume is calculated based on wind vector, terrain (if LiDAR data is available), and thermal conditions.
- The cone is drawn on the map showing where deer downwind of the hunter would detect human scent.
- Use the cone to judge whether game approaching a spot would enter your scent stream.
Reading the scent cone
- Cone points away from game approaches — wind is in your favour; hunt the spot.
- Cone partially covers approaches — marginal; hunt with caution.
- Cone covers expected approach routes — you are effectively downwind of yourself; pick a different spot.
Scent cone analysis requires Pro. Wind arrows (direction only) are available on the Free tier.
Maps & Layers
ProHunt’s map system supports 24 layers that can be toggled independently.
Basemaps
- Outdoors — Trails, roads, terrain features. Best for general navigation.
- Satellite — High-resolution aerial imagery. Best for scouting terrain and stand placement.
- Topographic — Contour lines and elevation data. Best for reading ridgelines and funnels.
- Dark — Low-light mode for night use.
Overlay layers
- LiDAR elevation — High-resolution laser elevation data showing micro-terrain.
- Slope angle — Colour-coded slope steepness. Deer prefer 0–30° slopes.
- Contour lines — Traditional topographic contour overlay.
- Land Parcels (property boundaries) — Land ownership boundaries; coverage is actively expanding by country.
- Wind — Animated wind flow arrows across the map.
- Scent cone — Real-time scent plume from current position (Pro).
- Vegetation — Forest, grassland, and agricultural classifications.
- Water sources — Rivers, lakes, streams, wetlands.
- Trails — Hiking, forestry, and hunting trail network.
- Heatmaps — Animal activity and hunting pressure visualisations.
Dog GPS Tracking
ProHunt tracks hunting dogs on the map in real time. It works with Bluetooth LE and cellular/satellite GPS collars, so you can use affordable gear instead of only premium hunting GPS systems:
Compatible collar types
- Garmin Alpha
- Tracker G500 / G1000
- MiniFinder
- Tractive
- PetFon
- Fi
- Off-brand / budget BLE and cellular collars
Dog tracking features
- Up to 10 dogs tracked simultaneously (Pro)
- Colour-coded position pins and recent track lines
- Status detection (running, on point, stationary)
- Notification if a dog stops moving during an active hunt
Team GPS & SOS Safety
ProHunt’s team features (Pro) allow a group of hunters to see each other on a shared live map. The SOS safety feature is free for all users.
Setting up a team
- Go to Team → Create Team and give the team a name.
- Share the auto-generated 6-character invite code with your hunting partners.
- Partners tap Team → Join Team and enter the code.
- All team members now appear on each other’s map in real time.
SOS alert system
The SOS button is always accessible and free for all users. Activating it:
- Sends your GPS coordinates and a custom SOS message to one contact you choose.
- Can be triggered on demand at any time, or automatically prompted if you miss a check-in interval you set.
SOS requires cellular data. Always carry a satellite communicator (e.g. Garmin inReach, SPOT) as a backup in areas without cell service. ProHunt SOS is a supplement to, not a replacement for, proper safety equipment.
ProRut™ — Breeding Calendar
ProRut is ProHunt’s breeding phase calculator. Species coverage varies by country and region — for example, Sweden covers its 7 local huntable species, while African countries or New Zealand cover their own distinct game. ProRut is a Pro feature.
Supported species
The species list adapts to your country and region, matching the huntable game covered by that region’s regulations. All ProRut species require Pro.
Rut phases tracked
- Pre-rut / seeking
- Chase phase
- Peak rut / lockdown
- Post-rut
