Team Tracking shares every team member's live GPS position on a shared map. Whether you are coordinating a deer drive across two square kilometres or making sure everyone gets back to camp safely, seeing your team in real time changes how you hunt together.

Team Tracking requires a Pro subscription and a cellular or Wi-Fi data connection for all participants. Positions update continuously while members have a connection.

Why Team Tracking Matters

Hunting with a group introduces coordination challenges that single hunters never face. Deer drives require members to hold positions and move on cue. Without visibility into where everyone is, drives collapse. More critically, hunting accidents — including fatalities — have occurred because hunters could not see where fellow hunters were positioned relative to their line of fire.

Team Tracking makes every member visible. It is the closest thing to a military operations map for your hunting party.

How to Set Up a Team

  1. Create your team

    Tap the Team icon in the bottom navigation. Select Create Team and give it a name. A 6-character invite code is generated automatically.

  2. Share the invite code

    Share the code verbally, by message, or via the copy button. Codes never expire; the team leader can regenerate a new code at any time.

  3. Members join

    Each member opens ProHunt, taps Team, selects Join Team, and enters the 6-character code. They must have a Pro subscription to appear on the shared map.

  4. Start tracking

    Once joined, every member's position appears on the map automatically. Each member shows as a named pin with their initials and a directional arrow indicating their heading.

Member Display

Each team member on the map shows:

  • Colour-coded pin — each member gets a distinct colour assigned automatically
  • Name label — their display name (set in profile settings)
  • Direction arrow — heading based on recent GPS movement
  • Last seen time — if a member loses signal, the last known position is shown with a timestamp so you know how stale it is
  • Battery indicator — a low-battery warning appears when a member's phone is running low

Team Hunting Use Cases

Deer Drives

The most demanding team coordination scenario. Drivers push deer through cover while standers hold positions on exit routes. With Team Tracking:

  • Standers can see exactly where drivers are and know when they are approaching
  • Drivers can adjust based on stander positions if someone has moved
  • The team leader can see the entire drive in real time from any position

Never substitute for firearm safety

Team Tracking improves coordination but does not replace fundamental firearm safety practices. Always identify your target and what is beyond it, regardless of what the map shows. GPS accuracy is approximately 3-5 metres — this is not sufficient precision to determine a safe firing direction.

Stand Hunting Coordination

  • Know when team members enter and leave the woods to avoid disturbing each other
  • Coordinate which stands are occupied before the morning hunt
  • Track who is heading back to camp after a hunt

Camp Safety Check-Ins

Set a time for everyone to be back at camp. If a member has not returned, their last known position is visible on the map — enormously helpful if you need to initiate a search.

Best Practices

  • Start sharing before leaving the trucks. Confirm every member is visible on the map before anyone enters the woods.
  • Use team chat alongside tracking. ProHunt's in-app team messages let you coordinate without phone calls that can make noise or drain battery faster.
  • Assign clear stand assignments in the app. Drop a waypoint at each member's stand location and tag it with their name. Cross-reference with the live tracking view.
  • Enable location sharing all day. Do not disable tracking between morning and evening hunts — knowing where everyone is during midday walking saves confusion.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many members can be in one team?
A Pro team supports up to 20 members. All team features — the shared team map, live positions, chat, and annotations — require a Pro subscription. Free users have the base map only.
Does tracking work without cell service?
No. Real-time GPS sharing requires an active data connection on all devices. In areas without coverage, positions stop updating and each member sees the last known location of others. This is clearly indicated with a "last seen" timestamp on each pin.
How much battery does continuous tracking use?
Continuous GPS sharing increases battery usage, as with any live-tracking app. Bring a power bank for all-day hunts and keep your phone warm in cold weather to preserve battery life.
Can I track someone who is not in my team?
No. Tracking is strictly opt-in. A person must join your team with the invite code and have sharing enabled in their settings to appear on your map.
